Flexibility

There’s a match tonight, so Friday evening is moved to Friday morning. You can’t beat a bit of flexibility.

Sky have done the dirty on the fixtures again but for probably the time ever it’s worked in my favour as had they played Saturday I would have had to have missed it due to us heading up to Newcastle for the Great North Run.

Oddly it seems to work in Derby’s favour too and they trash Hull 5-0. Probably just a one off...

Afterwards my Dad and I have a swift pint in Navigation, my Mum having decided to skip the game.

Miracle Required

Today Derby County play Hull City in the first leg of play-off semi-finals, this was so unexpected a few months ago that I booked a dog show which I have now decided to miss. Perhaps that was a mistake as Derby fail to turn up and Hull win 3-0, leaving them requiring a miracle in the away leg on Tuesday.

The game was an early 12:30 kick off (naturally), so in the afternoon I start my swim training for next month’s Leeds Triathlon. L and I go for a swim at Harvey Hadden on one of their rare as Hen’s Teeth 50m sessions. It is packed, which really makes you wonder why they don’t do more of them. I swim 30 lengths which is the 1500m Olympic race distance which we’ll be doing at Leeds.

We stay in at night with Eurovision, as we are both going to attempt to run 10k tomorrow against our respective physios’ advice.

And Now, The End Is Here...

‘And now, the end is here...’ Our time is up or so the Mayans say at 11.11am this morning. How exciting. So we bring forward our 11am coffee break, just in case. It’ll be a shame really because we’re having new carpet installed this afternoon.

11.11 passes and nothing happens. Perhaps they’re running late, can the apocalypse be delayed by flood water?

An hour later, still nothing has happen. Oh well, best start planning for Christmas then.

At home, the carpet layers arrive and now we have lovely squishy new carpet.

In the evening, I decline our company’s Christmas night out in favour of Derby’s match at home to Hull City. We didn’t expect to see many turn up after they switched the game to a Friday night but it turns out to be one of the biggest gates of the season courtesy of a lot of free tickets handed out. This is quite obvious from the high pitched chanting, you can always tell it’s a freebie night when it’s full of school kids.

The match is a let down, Derby are on a good run but the baffling decision to play one up front at home means we never really threaten the Hull goal and lose 2-1.

Voyage Of Discovery

L’s off jet setting again. This time on a voyage of discovery by bus to Mansfield. It’ll be interesting to see if she discovers anything there.

I’m on the park, trying to teach MD to carry his ball in a straight line, preferably a sort of forwards direction, to save myself some shoe leather. I’m supposed to be exercising him, not the other way around. I’m not sure I have much success.

Then I’m off to watch the flypast and perhaps some of the match. As Derby lose 2-0 to Hull, the flypast is obviously the highlight. This is the flypast trailing the ‘We only had ten men’ banner that many fans have clubbed together to raise money for.

It refers to when we beat Forest last month 2-1 after being a goal down and a man down from the 3rd minute. It flies over the City Ground before circling Pride Park at around 3:15.

It’s good to see that the Forest fans haven’t trumped us and clubbed together for an anti-aircraft gun.

We stay in, bloody half marathon tomorrow.
