Obsessed

Today we’re at a dog show at the Lincoln Showground. L comes with us and we drop her off at Lincoln parkrun on the way, not that she’s obsessed or anything. She's even checked out whether the Melton one is reachable from next weekend’s sportive at Rutland Water.

MD does two runs, two disastrous runs before we head back to pick her up. On the first MD fails to wait until I’m ready before he starts. I know he thinks he’s so smart but without me to point the way he really isn’t going get far. So that was an elimination. Then in the second I just knew he wasn’t going to get that tricky tunnel entry and I was so right.

The afternoon goes better. Run three is excellent apart from the one mistake which I have to say was all my fault and run four was a clear round. In a field of 235 and against dogs of a higher grade than us a rosette for 18th is actually a good result.

In the football, Derby embark on a nerve shredding 4-4 draw at Huddersfield which turns out to be enough to hold them steady in their current 5th place position. Elsewhere, all Leeds’ Italian players go on strike and we think we have problems.

In the evening we visit the Members Bar at Camra’s AGM which is being held in Nottingham this year. The last time I went was when it was in Derby back in 2000. Rather predictably all the decent dark ales have been picked over the night before but the 7.5% Russian Rouble from Flipside goes down rather well, as you would expect. We quickly move on and find all the surrounding pubs are packed out with Camra Members. So after an uncomfortable pint in the Borlase, we head home. Probably wise anyway with L doing the 10k tomorrow.

Canning Circus is in limbo at the moment. Lincoln Green have now pulled out of the Falcon but have not yet taken up residence in the Borlase. That should all sort itself out next month.

The Damage

L asks if anyone commented on my new head injury. Oh yes, lots of comments. The police will be round to speak to her soon I imagine.

Scruffys is now toast, although we already knew that. Now it actually is called Toast.
Although I don’t think they sell any, it’s mainly cakes, and it’s not a great name for a prosperous business. Italian beers... not much to tempt me.

L is out in Derby and I’m dog training, where it’s dark so no one notices the damage.

Rest And Refuelling

A rest and refuelling day today. Otherwise known as a night out down the pub.

I arrive at work to find that the office next to ours was broken into last night and they pinched a load of their computers. Well actually, a load of other peoples computers because they are a repair shop for Apple equipment. Obviously our kit wasn’t good enough for them, unless they’re planning on coming back.

It shows up how bad the security is here. The windows have a couple of simple catches on them and do not lock all the way around like most modern residential windows now do. We thought this wouldn’t matter because all the windows have protective cages on them but they just bent these aside. So those were a complete waste of time. Leaves us feeling a bit defenceless ourselves. I assume we can’t improve things ourselves because we don’t own the building.

After work I meet my friend in the Brunswick for a few beers before we head across to the local Italian, which informs us that they can’t do us any pizzas, garlic breads, focaccia etc etc because their oven is broken. So it’s pasta all round then. Rather good pasta as it happens and it might actually become my default choice.

My friend disappears early, so with 50 minutes to wait for the bus I take Stephen and Isabelle (my Birdsong audiobook) for a swift one, no point waiting outside in the cold.
