Lazarus

I have a rough, restless night but I gradually recover, ravish L, ravish breakfast, cut the lawn, go track cycling and end up in the pub. I am Lazarus.

At the track we all end up taking tips from one of the sprinters about dealing with injuries. He laughs in the face of foam rollers and pulls a solid plastic drain pipe from his kit bag. This is apparently what real men use. When someone mentions using a tennis ball to get at those hard to reach knots in your muscles, he again shakes his head and pulls a hockey ball from his bag but he prefers a shot put, which he hasn’t brought with him.

Drinks again tonight in the Exeter but there’s nothing different to add to the dark list.

Pleasure And Pain

This morning L and I are back to rolling around on the bed together in pleasure and pain, with L on top of me and the foam roller between us. She gets the pleasure (I think) and I get the pain. Sadly the tight calf is back and needs battering back into shape. This is partner abuse.

It begs the question whether to do a 10k this weekend as planned or not. Is the training aspect paramount here or is injury prevention more important ahead of Nottingham in two weeks’ time? The latter I think.

Talking of injuries. L may have survived yesterday’s run but she announces officially that she is taking a night off tonight. E.g. she’s officially injured, if she can bring herself to cancel her classes that is.

I take the cake box to dog training.

Hockey

We stay in and don’t do an awful lot today as I believe is traditional on a bank holiday weekend if you don’t like garden centres. It’s just we don’t usually uphold those sorts of traditions.

I do face down a meeting or two with the Foam roller with L at the controls.

Oddly I get involved in a rather exciting sports occasion which is live on TV, the Women’s EuroHockey Championship Final where England are facing the hot favourites the Netherlands.

England come back from 2-0 down before beating them on penalties.

All quite exciting stuff.
