Long Forgotten Sundays

This one of those almost long forgotten Sundays when it’s gone lunchtime before we finally roll out of bed, when I arrive at the Co-Op to get the very last copy of the Sunday paper and when we take the dogs on the park we find just the muddy tracks of the runners left as today’s Mo Run has long since packed up.

Then we head back to the house for a mid-afternoon Full English Breakfast. After which it’s a rush to take some rubbish to the local tip before it closes a 4pm. By now it’s almost dark and we’ve only just got up.

Tonight would have been perfect for another track session at the Velodrome but it’s not on as the place is being used for the British Taekwondo Championships.  We head there for the gym instead as I am a member and L can get another five day free pass. Sadly the taekwondo is over by the time we arrive, the track is empty and the coach is sat in the foyer working on his laptop. So we could have had a session... but he says he won't do me a one-to-one.

In the end I settle for 20k on the Watt Bike.

Time Heals The Deepest Of Wounds

This morning bike ride was almost excellent, if only it hadn’t been for the stiff breeze that I was pedalling into. Apparently it’s all muscle building stuff.

Today’s pub lunch help with my recovery.

We still have no race for this Sunday. It now boils done to a choice of donning fancy dress and wearing a false moustache for the Mo Run on Wollaton Park or travelling over for the Coventry 10K.

The name ‘Coventry 10K’ sounds almost idyllic until you release that the race only cover a very small part of non-central Coventry parkland know as War Memorial Park. Three and a quarter times. We did it around ten years ago and swore never again but time heals the deepest of wounds.

L sounds keen but then she’ll wonder why she let me talk her into it although it actually sounds like she’s trying to talk me into it or perhaps she's trying to talk me into talking her into it.

It’s a tough choice and there is a third option e.g. a Saturday night out in town followed by a lie-in. Which doesn't really compare with 3+ loops of War Memorial Park.

As for tonight, we have a quiet night in that is after L has crawled home from Pump. Then I lock her in the bedroom at her own request to keep her out of the fridge.

Kicking Against The Establishment

It’s a bit cold today. Frosty, almost icy, almost winter. I wimp out of cycling and get the bus again.

Day 24... Ironically now that we have a posh new shower and almost a new bathroom we are being prevented from using said new shower for longer than a few seconds at a time due to a blocked drain. Our builder says he’ll have a go at unblocking it for us.

I have been looking for a race for Sunday 20th November but I feel this day is trying to tell me something. The Tatton Park Half is full, so is the Clowne Half. The Heanor Ch****mas Pudding run is also full and the Loughborough 10k has been cancelled. What’s the world coming to?

L is googling and suggesting races, clearly enthused. There are spaces in the Mo Run on Wollaton Park but they are limits, I think. Am I that desperate yet?

Pub lunch today and I clock up dark beer 101.

Sadly the evening’s post-dogging pint in the Masons is still Wainwrights. So I kick against the establishment (sort of) and risk a Pedigree. I regret it. Marston's Pedigree used to be distinctive once now it just tastes like Doom Bar.

Back at home we now have a working bathroom sink for the first time in nearly four weeks. Dare I whisper it quietly that it's looking almost finished. Perhaps just another week then.
