Gold Dust

Turkey Trot entries open today. Great, this means I can again log on too late and find the race has been filled hours ago. Places are like gold dust and some say this race is harder to get in to than Glastonbury. Consequently I have never ran the Turkey Trot but I have been to Glastonbury.

I’m in! Would you believe it, I’ve even had the confirmation email. Although I now feel guilty for doing L out of the Bolsover 10k which is on the same day and is where she has a reputation to keep up after I piloted her race number to 2nd Over 50s Lady last year.

Did you see the Brownlees and their brotherly love? Although I’m not sure Alistair would have been so helpful if he’d had a chance of the World Title himself.

MD is at the vets tonight for his annual booster. He hates this once a year visit with a vengeance and is a quivering wreck in the waiting room. The vet has bad news for him, it’s no longer once a year. The new improved vaccine that they are introducing requires two visits exactly four weeks apart. This is progress? Doesn’t sound very ‘improved’ to me.

Luckily, afterwards we have dog training up at Codnor to take his mind off it. Then we head over to Mickelover to collect L from her parents where her brother is now at home.

Gold Dust

L is running in a 10k at Clumber Park which has a very reasonable start time of 12 noon.

I wouldn't mind having a look at the Off Road Duathlon that they are also holding but that starts at 9am. That’s a bit early, think we’ll have a lie in instead.

When we get there, I find that the problem with a 12 noon start is that the Clumber Park café only serves breakfast, e.g. bacon rolls, in the morning. I don't fancy a burger, so I’ll just have to wait until later for breakie.

The 10k turns out to be not very off road at all, in fact so on road even I could have done it. L does well though and then we head home for a mid-afternoon breakfast.

We have various grand plans for the evening but in the end, after moving away from the best beers last week, these are distilled down to find a decent beer and stay there. We hit gold dust in pub one, the Falcon. Tuck is on as is a coffee styled beer from a brewery I can’t remember. We stay put all night but fail to drink it dry and then pick up a curry from the Park Tandoori on the way home. Very naughty.

Good News And Bad News

There’s good news and bad news on the squash front. The good news is that they seems to be promoting squash through England Squash And Racketball.

The bad news is that the council are ‘consulting’ about selling the centre, as new owners should be able to attract new investment and run the centre at a profit, which begs the question... why can’t the council.

There’s more bad news when we see table tennis being played in the other court. I hope that was only allowed because they’d been a last minute cancellation because courts are like gold dust on a Thursday evening.

It also seems to be a bit of a vicious game, judging by the blood curdling screams coming from that court.

I employ a change of tactics at lunch time, chicken, bacon and mushroom pie rather than usual steak and whatever. Doesn’t work.
