Worth A Repeat

I bike in. It’s a bit chilly but at least I don’t have any punctures today. I have a new tyre and a new tube, so I would hope that’s cured it.

The number of complaints over Jeremy Clarkson’s comments reaches 21,000. Impressive but presumably it just means the rest of the UK's 62 million population either agreed with him or got the joke.

We decide to stay in tonight again, as I may be getting up at 5am to head up to Preston. I haven’t decided on a departure time yet but last night’s unscheduled night in was so very pleasant, it was worth a repeat.

For romantic entertainment we watch the gruesome thriller the ‘Bone Collector’ which is based on the Jeffrey Deaver’s book that we have both read, well listened to. I thought the book took a lot of getting into but at least a film will usually get straight to the point. Although I can see the film is terribly miscast before we even watch it. Denzel Washington and Angelina Jolie are not remotely appropriate and they have to rewrite the roles for them. In fact they rewrite nearly everybody’s roles, so it’s not a great effort.

A Valiant Attempt

I had penciled in another run but I did do eleven miles yesterday and the calves are feeling a bit tight. So I take the bus instead, listening to another murderous book. The second of two Mark Billingham books, having listened to ‘Sleepy Head’

I’m now on to ‘Scaredy Cat’.

Gruesome but good.

It’s National Christmas Shopping Day today of course, or something like that. A lot of people are off anyway and the roads are lovely and quiet. L reports that the leisure centre and the park are both closed. Which is a bit inconvenient, although this randomly happens from time to time anyway but perhaps it’s not a coincidence this time. The leisure centre staff are a bit daft not turning in, everyone is fighting hard to stop the council closing the leisure centres for good and another day of lost income won’t help their cause. A good pension is all very well but having a job is surely more important.

My turn to break the house rule today. A Christmas celebration before the 1st of December, albeit on the last day of November. I meet up with the old school chums for a few pints in the Alexandra and the Royal Standard. We order food in the Standard and are then offered a load of leftover sandwiches and snacks from a meeting that’s been held there. We make a valiant attempt at both our meals and the leftovers.

Glycogen Stores

On the bus and feeling a bit queasy again, as I finish ‘Blind Eye’ on audio. At least it’s out the way, problem is I worry how gruesome the next book by Stuart McBride is going to be. You just have to keep reading don’t you.

It’s Daughter's last day of lessons at college, assuming she passes of course and we have every faith that she will, even if she doesn’t. I’ll get the Kleenex ready for tonight, as L sobs that it’s the end of an era, etc, etc. Think of the poor college, the students have probably all been around collecting souvenirs off the walls. We know it happens, Son's room is a testament to last years.

I take the dogs on the park, where we are all fascinated by a chap who is stood in the middle of park waving his arms about. Perhaps he's having a rapture? Which can't be easy with two dogs chasing balls around your feet.

I’d planned a night in tonight, as I’m doing the Richmond Sportive tomorrow, not because I want an alcohol free and/or an early night but mainly because L is coming with me and I’m worried about getting her up in time for my planned 6am departure.

This plan goes pear shaped when I talk her into coming to meet us on the park after the gym. She drops her bags off at home, whilst I bring mine along to the pub with me, Doggo and MD. Where I top up my glycogen stores in the Admiral Rodney and the Wheelhouse.
