Facing The Sack?

Day two of the Nottingham dog show at the Newark Showground where my entire morning is spent organising, persuading, cajoling, consoling... and a lot of hanging around. Yes, it’s the Crufts Team Event.

L keeps well out of the way and goes to aquarobics instead but without a towel, she’s always doing that. Secretly she’s such an exhibitionist.

So I have four teams, sixteen team members and we achieve just one clear round between us. Not great. Premiership managers have been sacked for less, much less. Perhaps they’ll sack me?

MD’s team run was decent with just a minor tunnel mishap that I sort of predicted as it was case of me being on his un-favourite side for either the weaves or the following tunnel. I deemed it less catastrophic to mess up the tunnel. Apparently he did all his contacts, at least that what the judge said. I wasn’t so sure but it’s not my opinion that counts. It’s not often that disagreeing with the judge goes in my favour.

He then goes and misses them all in his individual agility run.

In fact we are eliminated in all three of our individual runs today, so no rosettes to take home. Where we then head to spoil L’s peace and because I need a beer or two.

We head to the Lincolnshire Poacher for a couple and then the Golden Fleece for a few more, clocking up a few dark ones on the way. Then it’s the usual takeaway from the Park Tandoori.

The Long Road North

It’s 5am Saturday morning. We are up and on the long road north e.g. the M6.

First stop Preston and a near underwater Parkrun. I drop L off and hope it’s on.

Second stop Bilsborrow and an equally underwater dog show, which is thankfully indoors but the access roads and the surrounding fields are well flooded. I make it there with two minutes to spare to walk our first course.

The rain is now incessant, I pity anyone parkrunning because the run does go ahead.

At the dog show, run one was very good but MD missed a contact. I thought he got it but the judge disagreed. We come 5th even with those 5 faults, we would have won had he got that contact.

After I’ve walked my next course I head out into the monsoon to collect L from the bus. However I’m a bit late and she has already started swimming for it. I manage to rescue her before she gets too far out of her depth.

In the afternoon we record a decent 9th place and then he leads the jumping for ages but our time is finally beaten. We finish 2nd. Not a bad day all in all.

In the evening we head out for a few beers in the Blue Monkey and the Borlase.

Inexplicably Sideways

Today we have a dog show at Thoresby Hall, which is not too far from home. It is MD’s first outing at his new illustrious level of Grade 5, although all today classes are lumped with Grade 4 anyway. So, for today at least, it’s nothing different to what we’re used to.

MD misses the dog walk in both his agility runs, coming off inexplicably sideways on the first one. The second one is very close, so could probably be excused or put down to the judge’s poor eyesight. Otherwise they were good runs.

He is clear on his first jumping course but it is a scrappy run and he is only 6th. Only! He has a pole down in the other jumping run.

Plenty of promise but no delivery today. Doggo has a great day people watching.

Talking of promise, L is apparently out shopping for a denim mini skirt and for a new pair of swimming goggles. Sounds very promising, well the first bit does. Naturally she comes home without the skirt but with the goggles. I think she needs assistance with this shopping lark.
