Three Days On The Bounce

I cycle again. Three days on the bounce. Ta da. Zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz

L reports that MD is extra lively this morning. He shouldn’t have been, I did my best. I had to practically carry him home from training last night.

We restart squash tonight. Opponent says he’ll be carrying around a lot of curry/crisps/chips/kebabs etc with him. Tut tut. I’ll be carrying around today’s pub lunch. As well as a pint of Maverick from Loch Fyne which takes me back to the Isle Of Coll half marathon, as that is what we were drinking post-race.

I nearly don’t make squash, the traffic is barely moving and we both get stuck in it. I half expect to see L, who is running there, run past me. I try a couple of detours that don’t usually work but on this occasion they do. We eventually start 15 minutes late and my legs, with three days cycling in them, go after the first game which I do manage to hang on to win. I lose 2-1.

Another Day On Coll

There is breakfast laid on the morning after the race for a small charge. We then spend the day exploring the island.

Most of the runners are off back home today and presumably to work on Monday but we are staying on for a day before heading on to Tiree. First thing we have to do though is to move the tent, the temporary campsite is not available and we are going to have to wild camp behind the Coll Hotel. Nice view from there though.

We eat and drink in the Coll hotel which also has one of the Fyne Ales on hand pump and a very good, if pricey, food menu.

Why Does Everyone Think I’m An Expert?

Due to injury, L considers changing her entry for the Coll Half Marathon. There's a 10k option or there’s a half marathon walk. I’m more than happy to scrawl ‘I bloody walked’ all over her race t-shirt for her in marker pen.

In the end she decides to reduce her Coll run to the 10K. Mainly because the walking group will be full of fit and fast 80 year olds.

I cycle to work, after noticing that my front wheel is back to front. It must have been back to front for years because when I put it in correctly the bits for the bike computer don’t line up. So I put it back the wrong way again.

My fellow cyclist, L, confesses to cutting someone up this morning. That’s her new psycho fingerless gloves for you but I’m glad to hear she’s being more assertive, just wait until we get those pedals off and the drop handlebars on. In fact she does seem to be interested in the idea of nice lightweight ladies racing bike, if only for cosmetic reasons. She’ll have to sit on Santa's knee for that.

As I cycle home and head to the pool, I get another puncture. Somebody really doesn’t want me to swim. The problem is I don’t want me to swim either, so they’re wasting their time really.

It’s close enough to home to walk back to the house, where in an effort to not arouse any suspicion to the dogs that I might be home, I chuck the bike over the back gate and drive off in the car. I think I’ve been rumbled though; there were definite overtones of whining as I pulled away.

L warns me that the pool is very hot, even by her standards. It might just have to be a quick one then. If it’s that hot, I might need the kiss of life later.

I survive the warmth and then afterwards I get in another discussion on swims, bikes, runs and triathlons in general with somebody in the changing room. Why does everyone think I’m an expert?

I Wish You Hadn't Taken Me To The Tri...

My arms and shoulders still ache after Saturday’s swim and both my calves seem to be locked in unhelpful mode. I get out the foam roller but it doesn’t seem to improve them much. Doggo sits on me, just in case that helps. It doesn’t.

L keeps saying ‘I wish you hadn't taken me to the tri...’ Sorry.

Sort of inspired myself, in a sort of ‘still alive’ sort of way, I plan our summer holiday. E.g. Isle of Coll half marathon to start the week; Loch Lomond swim to finish it off. I’m sure everyone’s holiday plans are along similar lines.

The Coll Half website was saying ‘race limit 300 – entries so far 298’, so thought I best get in quick. Although the online booking page offered a generous 54 entries still available but I wasn’t risking which one was right.

Now just to book a ferry, don’t tell Doggo he’s got to go on another boat.

In the evening she heads off for a run with Sweatshop, I head off to train the boys.
