A Puncture Waiting To Happen

Back on the bike and on my best bike. This is because when I accidentally ran over some glass on Friday on my not-so-best bike and stopped to check that nothing was lurking in my tyre, I saw how bald the front tyre was. A puncture waiting to happen, with or without glass. So I needed to change the tyre, which I haven’t done yet.

The update on breakfast-watch is that Doggo loved his ‘cottage pie’ and licked his bowl clean.

L emails to say she’s been for a swim, so presumably she got in and out of the pool ok as she now appears to be in work. So limbs seems to be healing ok there.

L and Daughter head over to visit L’s Dad as it’s his birthday today while I stay at home churning out paperwork for this weekend’s dog show, while chucking balls.

An Endangered Species

No ‘P’ words this morning. I survived and my tyres survived. It seems though that this is less of a miracle than for L’s tyres. One of which appears to be almost totally bald. You can see threads through what little rubber is left on it. Blimey, she must have used her bike more than we thought.

Pub lunch at the Brunswick and the blackboard says that pie, chips and peas is back, temporarily. Very temporarily. 'Only three left' it says. We have two of them and the chap behind us has the third. Where did they find these, at the back of the freezer? They’re clearly an endangered species as the price increase from £5.00 to £7.95 demonstrated. Exactly the same meal though. Well, perhaps with extra gravy but a bit overpriced at £2.95.

No matter, they’ll be no more the grumpy barman tells us after admitting they’re a best seller but the new owner has other, new owner sort of, ideas.

Tennis tonight. 4-6 4-6. Sort of enjoyed it but I enjoyed the pint in the Victoria afterwards more.

Team Manager’s Prerogative

I abandon plans for a run today because I need to take the car in to the garage for new boots. One tyre is almost bald and I have another long drive on Sunday. I replace the runs by entering the Paws 10k, which is tomorrow and so joining L for a few laps of Cotgrave Country Park.

Naturally you ask a garage to check your tyres and they come back with a list of things you haven’t asked them to look at it. I have a broken suspension spring. Pot holes you know... speed bumps you know... blah blah. I did actually suspect this might be the case. Plus three new tyres = not cheap.

They can do things like suspension. It’s just unfasten a few nuts and bolt a new one on. They all look at their hands when I ask them about why my key fob no longer works or why my interior light keeps blowing its fuse. Yes, I’ve changed the battery on the fob and the bulb for the light. They suggest I take it to Vauxhall for such technical jobs. I almost add that I could of course ask Vauxhall to do my tyres and suspension as well but I don't.

The Crufts Team seems to have been resolved. One stray team member is in, one is out. So I promote myself with MD from reserve into the team. This upsets the other reserve. Tough. Team manager’s prerogative. Anyway, how many clear rounds did her dog get last weekend – Zero, how many for 'Ratbag' - Two. I rest my case.

We stay in and prepare for ‘Paws’ tomorrow, although we’re not entirely AF. I cook but get carried away and heavily spice the Mexican Chicken. I might regret that tomorrow.
