Ready For A Change

L is at the Tennis Centre Physio on Monday, where she finds out that she has Gluteal Tendinopathy. She is still allowed to run and is encouraged to keep mobile but to cut out sitting. They also told her she has to keep her legs apart. I found that bit quite amusing but I didn’t dare ask how I could help.

In an unrelated fitness decision, she has cancelled her direct debit for her tennis coaching. She says she’s ready for a change. She has to give a month's notice but given that we are away for the rest of this month, this means that this week’s session will be her last one.

Of course when she goes to the gym on Tuesday they tell her at the desk that they’re sorry to hear she’s leaving the gym. Cancelling anything with the City Council is always hard work, so we’re hardly surprised they’ve messed this one up.

Monday I’m at dog training while I spend Tuesday evening at my Dad’s signing him up to a new car insurance provider after his existing one doubled his premium after he was subject to a scam claim on it.

Perfect Sense

On the bike today while L rushes off to Manchester. I’m owed sex apparently which is obviously the best kind of debt to be owed. I really must update the Standing Order or perhaps consider starting a Direct Debit.

My colleague and I try to get lunch in the Brunswick but it is rammed and they are not taking any food orders that haven’t been pre-booked. I do love the way they don’t look after their regulars. The backup option, and always a very poor one, is the Waterfall. Their only beer is very poor quality Doom Bar, which is a very poor ale anyway even before they get their hands on it. Lunch is a toasted sandwich.

L rubs it in my texting from Manchester where she is having lunch with Daughter and drinking Lees Christmas Plum Porter.

Birmingham City sack Gary Rowett, the best manager they’ve had in a very long time and who currently has them one point outside the play off zone. Makes perfect sense. At least that’s one less rival for promotion that we have to worry.

Then it’s dogging but, as L is in Manchester, it’s dogging without a beer at the end of it.

She Died Young But She Lived Fast

Autumn approaches and the weather is again miserable but somehow I dodge the showers as I take the bus to work.

L still hasn’t been paid and with the prospect of a direct debit catastrophe looming, I skim a chunk off our mortgage and send it to her account. I do occasionally have my uses.

Nottingham’s Junktion 7 is finally no more and is destined to become more student flats. Just what we need. The original, much loved and influential Junktion 7 opened back in 2002 and ran for over six years until closing on New Year's Eve in 2008. Many great bands played early live shows there. There have been attempts at resurrection since but it is best remembered for that short period. As their own tribute website says 'She died young, but she lived fast...'

Meanwhile the Bunkers Hill, which was influential in another way by being one of the first pubs in the area to support the microbreweries is becoming yet another pub specialising in burgers. Just what we need.

A pub lunch today and another dark one to add to the list, Voodoo Mild.

Then it’s dog training and the Mason afterwards where, given the weather, there's the inappropriately named Otter Spring on the bar, which is so not dark.
