Illiterate

Today L does something called the Nottingham Readers Day. It’s a book thing. With me being illiterate and having to have everything read to me by those nice people at Audible, she hasn’t booked me a place.

One of her friends is giving a talk called Dark Fairytales about the terrors of stories like Sleeping Beauty which apparently amounts to a borderline rape tale. I’m not sure how she’ll get away with that, they’ll be protests on the streets outside.

L's also booked into something called Working Class literature but that has been cancelled. How ironic is that? I assume they called in claiming a duvet day. She opts for a replacement of the snappily named - Shelf, Share or Charity Shop instead.

Meanwhile, I take the Lad on his first full circuit of Wollaton Park. He checks out the moat and restyles his white bits as non white bits.

Concentrate On The Swimming

I cycle and swim today. There are no bikinis in the pool, yet again. Actually there are no women in the pool. Just loads of men and pretty much all of them seem to be in my lane. It's so packed that I can’t even concentrate on the swimming, which I ought to, as I now have a swim to train for.

Then I’m at dog training. While L goes for run and starts her own training for Sheffield. She’s more injured than me at the moment, we do like to take it in turns. It's all very democratic.

With Pillars out of the way we start Game Of Thrones. In Pillars they cut all the rape, disembowelment, burning, hanging etc out of it (along with the plot). In Thrones apparently they sprinkle such things as liberally as possible. Looking forward to it.

A Few Beheadings Before Bedtime

The legs are tired and I have squash tonight, so I decide not cycle.

When a colleague who does come on his bike describes it as ******* windy out there, I think I may have made the correct decision to leave the wheels at home today.

L has made a life changing decision and is not rejoining the running club. I shall join her in this renegade approach. I’ve always been a reluctant member anyway and have always felt a bit of a fraud because we never attend any of their events, help out and in my case I rarely wear their colours.

Not cycling doesn’t really help at squash. Although oddly for the fourth week in a row I am winning in the final game as the next players bang on the door to call time. I wonder if my opponent arranges that.

L is treating me to the TV series of ‘Pillars of the Earth’ a story of rape, pillage and beheadings in the 12th Century that even L has been appalled by, although also riveted, on audiobook.
The actual story is about building a cathedral, which is I guess why the rape and pillage get so much time in the book, to jazz it up, along with Hayley Atwell.

Anyhow I haven’t read the book, L has obviously and reckons the TV version is nothing like. Personally I’m just finding it jolly confusing but we’ll see it through.
