Not Glastonbury

This time I go over to my Dad’s for the match as Derby win again, 2-1 over Reading, and my Mum gets to watch this one too, between naps.

This weekend would have been the 50th Glastonbury Festival, not that we got tickets, and the BBC celebrate it with some classic sets from the past. Sadly the first thing that you realise is that the BBC have only covered the Festival since 1997, which although this is over 20 years is less than half the life of the event. So there’s nothing really fascinatingly old from the 70s or the 80s.

About the oldest is a intriguing set from an upcoming band called Oasis back in 1994 which was actually filmed by Channel 4 who covered the Festival for the three years prior to 1997 before the BBC elbowed them out of the way. There was also the Killers debut from 2004 and a great set, that I enjoyed at the time, from Arcade Fire in 2014. Then, of course, the set everyone has been talking about from David Bowie in 2000, which was indeed excellent. Aside from those highlights though, it was a bit dull really. The BBC must have much better in their archives but chose not to make it available. Still it was an appropriate reason to open this week’s keg.

I get up and do a run first thing on Sunday (e.g. about 11:30am) although it’s only 5.5k, it is still a training run. The Brighton Marathon is still on for now, despite gatherings currently being limited to 30 people.

Just Another Monday

Just another Monday then, minus David Bowie of course. OMG. It was bad enough losing Lemmy last week. That said David, it’s a hell of a way to promote your new album and I jest not. That is what he’s actually done.

The weather, perhaps appropriately, is back to greyness.

Companies hardly come more annoying than Microsoft but this latest 'Active View' thing of theirs that they’ve added to emails where it turns a link into a snippet of the article with a photo is really annoying. Problem is you have no control over the sender’s account so you have to put up with it. L’s Hotmail/Outlook account has been infested with it, hopefully I’ll at least be able to get that one turned off somehow.

L swims and has to battle with some ‘super speedy large bearded bloke’. So she hit him in the face with her pull-buoy. That's my girl. She claims it was accidental but she would say that wouldn’t she. I do it all the time and I’m sure he took it in his stride.

At the dentist tonight or rather the hygienist, doing what the dentist used to do. Now dentists just charge you to look in your mouth, doing something is extra and preferably by someone else. The appointment goes smoothly, apart from the usual (ignored) demands to floss, but the waiting to pay afterwards takes ages and I run out of time to get my own swim in.

Derby draw Manchester United in the Cup at home. It would have been nice to have got a big team to test our reserves against but it is what it is. They’ll have to do.

Not Ziggy Stardust

I’m a little bit worse for wear this morning but some morning frivolity, a long shower, lots of water/juice and a walk around a frosty Forest Rec where L is park-running clears the head a treat.

L has her hair cut and coloured, she describes it as a David Bowie cut. I’m not too sure what one of those is but I soon found out it’s not a Ziggy Stardust cut. Just like Jennifer Lawrence, these girls always have to have it off, don’t they?

Then we try and get a few things sorted as regards our new bedroom. We try and order some carpet but they insist on coming to see us. We try and order a new bed but DFS don’t have any beds at all in their Nottingham store. They say we’ll have to visit their Darley Dale branch instead. We do look at a few elsewhere.

Then we try to do a bit of Christmas shopping but are thwarted in our attempts to buy some beer from the Lincoln Green Brewery by the fact they had shut at 1pm. We are more successful shopping at Sweatshop, although obviously not for beer. Generally though it wasn’t a totally successful trip.

Then I get home to listen to Derby’s game against Middlesbrough only to find they had kicked off at 12:15pm and not 3pm. I should have known that. They also lost.

We stay in with wine.

Taste Of Grass

I had already taken a load of extra clothes into work to run this morning but in end CBA. My right ankle aches, my left knee aches and both thighs are sore. My head says skip it, snuggle up to L and see if anything develops.

I was glad I didn't run in the end, as I got a bit wet walking for the bus. L ran though, or plodded as she calls it. Still, it was more than I did, run wise.

Daughter’s working all the hours. She says has an evening shift tonight and then a 6.30am shift tomorrow. It’s a good job she’s been doing all that fitness work in the gym!

L spends the afternoon working from home, with the boys, who are sat by their respective footballs with longing looks on their faces. Then we meet up later at the Erewash Beer Festival in Long Eaton. It’s again at the Westgate Suite but this year they’ve moved the entrance but it doesn’t confuse us for long.

There are free pork scratchings (which last about half an hour), a beer called Oakham Carioca that claims to taste of grass (it doesn’t thankfully) and a David Bowie tribute band called ‘Rebel Rebel’ (the less said the better).

Beer wise, I put myself about a bit as usual, whereas L settles in for the night cuddled up to a glass(es) of Burton Bridge Festival. She’ll regret that tomorrow.
