Black Fortnight Comes To An End (Maybe)

I think I’m officially a wimp. It’s a little cold, so I’m on the bus when I should be powering it in to work on my bike in readiness for Sunday’s track session but I don’t want to suck in cold air. Yep, wimp. Penance later in the gym then.

L is getting soft with the old man, Doggo, and has left him his duvet (yes, he has his own duvet) down in the hall. Although we both expect to find it shoved in a corner and him lying on the floor next to it when we get home.

I walk to the sandwich shop at lunchtime and at first I’m surprised to find that the traffic everywhere is gridlocked. Then I realise it’s Black Friday and people are queuing up to get ripped off.

They call it Black Friday but I’ve been deleting Black Friday emails for the past Black Fortnight. As soon as I delete one from my inbox another one appears. It’s crazy. I haven’t opened any of them.

I do get one email today that I care about, from Glencoe Mountain where they say heavy snow is falling at all levels and more snow is forecast over the next few days. Wow.  Let's go!

Through The Pain

On the bike today and then in the pub for lunch.

Squash is cancelled as my opponent has hurt his ankle doing a run. He says it started hurting towards the end of his 5k on the treadmill but he ran through the pain and finished it anyway. Then he asks if that sounds familiar. Hmm, maybe. It’s dangerous stuff this running business.

This development sort of stuffs up L’s planned run to meet us at squash but I’m happy to pretend I’ve played anyway and wait in the pub for her. I like to be helpful like that. Sadly, or happily for her injury, she’d already decided not to run and is going to the gym instead. Beers at home then.

Minimum Athletic Standards

It’s a bit damp on the bike today but not too bad. It was still eminently better that driving as the traffic was horrendous, it was horrendous enough having to cycle through it.

L always asks if I mind whether she goes to the gym in the evening. I always think she is miss phrasing this, shouldn’t she instead be asking if I mind if she doesn't go to the gym on the night’s she decides to skip it?

Obviously there are minimum athletic standards to maintain and enforce on both of us in our household.

Each To Their Own

We continue to look for events for Sunday 20th November, the weekend when everything is full. We stumble across the Beacon Trail Half Marathon, which looks interesting until I click on it and it tells me it’s full.

We now have new chic black bathmats in our new chic bathroom.

Dogging is off again, so I head off for a quickie in the gym instead. L is jealous. She’s out tonight but says she’d rather be in a gym than a curry house. Oddly I’d rather be in a curry house than in a gym but there you go. Each to their own.

It’s a hard session. It’s a long time since I’ve been on a Watt Bike and my legs keep reminding me of that fact all the way through my 20k. Luckily the steps go downwards out of the gym back to the changing rooms and crawling down is never as embarrassing as crawling up.

When I’ve recovered, the boys and I go to collect L from her enforced curry house.

Bootcamp

It’s wet, so I get the bus. Naturally it then fines up once the decision is made but it does degenerate again later, so perhaps a good decision after all. Problem is I now have to go to the gym, its called penance.

Perhaps I should hit Derby’s Springwood Bootcamp instead. It doesn’t look too much like penance if they supply the girls to hold your feet down.

Son narrowly fails his driving test theory having not revised caravans or mobility scooters. I can see why he didn’t but... but I thought he would have been better at guessing than he was.

I do my penance and then crawl to the bus. L offers to walk up and meet me but I just tell her to roll back the covers and pour the wine.
