One Of Life’s Essentials

I offer to walk the boys this morning and that, together with the expectation of quieter roads, means we all get longer in bed. Then as I take the boys out L gets a decent swim. She needs to make the most of it as the pools will be opening as little as possible over the festive period.

She asks if the boys missed her... Well MD definitely missed something, I assume it was L but it may have been the ball chucker as they just got a good old fashioned walk with me. Quite a long one too, so even Doggo ate breakfast afterwards.

I’m in the car today as our goose is being dropped off at work. Cycling may not have been a very good idea anyway as Storm Barbara is in town and gusting up to 60mph.

The roads may have been quiet this morning but they are not quiet at lunchtime. The queue for Sainsbury’s stretches all the way around Pride Park. I’ve no idea what they are all so desperate to buy and they probably have no idea either. So I walk to M&S as we are out of one of life’s essentials - Bonios. I’m also still looking for a Quorn Loaf. M&S don’t have one either but I find a Quorn ‘substitute’ Loaf at Holland & Barrett. I hate to think what’s in that.

There is no festive spirit at work and hence no early release from captivity. So my festive gym session has to wait until 5pm.

L has also requested some posh tonic water which get on my way home from Waitrose. It’s by Fever-Tree and its bark flavoured. Naturally I couldn’t resist that.

Cocktails

I bike, L swims. I hope she didn’t take the wrong kit like I did last night.

We seem to have blocked pipes and the normal unblock stuff from Sainsbury’s doesn't shift it. L’s googling recommends a cocktail of bicarbonate soda, vinegar and hot water. Which is probably only a couple of ingredients short of bomb making. I give her permission to pinch my wine vinegar.

The bathroom people ring and tell me that despite the fact we ordered it back in early July, and paid a 20% deposit, the toilet we chose is now out of stock. So we can either choose another one or stick with ours until they can get one sent to us at end of October. FFS springs to mind. I think somebody doesn’t understand the accepted use of the word ‘deposit’.

L meets Daughter at the train station. She's back in Nottingham yet again, sadly this time it is for the occasion of L’s brother funeral tomorrow. They both join us in the Navigation pub where we go after squash.

I lose 4-1 but I was just about to make it 4-2 because I was 9-3 up when the next pair of players knocked on the door. I'm sure I saw money change hands.

Bribery

Sainsbury’s have always been rather irritating with their money off vouchers and they are getting worse. Today I have a voucher for £12 off if I spend over £80. Which is, it has to be said, not a bad offer. So I have held some purchases back from last week and brought some forward from next week but sadly the rules state you can’t include alcohol. My bill comes to £79.81, so I grab a pack of batteries. Oh how I hate bribery.

I have another one of the same for next week, think I might have to let that one go.

In the evening I manage to dodge the summer showers at dog training while L is out in Ockbrook having a wild night on the fruit juice.

Tasty Delights

Both L and I now have one armed t-shirts. Our termite dog strikes again.

I’m not sure if this was an afterthought after he ate the duvet cover or part of the same operation. I go to Sainsbury’s and buy a new one. L promises to strangle him with the old one but I’m sure she doesn’t mean it.

Google says that dogs eat your clothes through boredom and anxiety. Although I don’t think normal rules tend to apply to Doggo.

Dogging is on this evening for the first time this year which drags Doggo away from the tasty delights of the laundry basket and also gets MD some much needed training.
