A Bit Of Rough

Blimey it's rough out there. I understand we're now on Storm Henry but personally I haven’t really noticed any let up since Gertrude started throwing her weight around. Maybe the storm has had a sex change? No wonder Gertrude aka Henry is pissed off. Transgender storms, whatever next.

I get the bus and leave the bike at home. L, however, is running. I just hope the wind is behind her.

We have a new venue for tonight’s committee meeting that none us actually remembers agreeing to but all the same we meet in Spondon for the first time. L runs to us there after running first with a friend in Ockbrook.

She then starts to walk the boys homeward and I collect them all on the way.

Something Wild And Exciting

L asks that if ‘trusty’ Runners World publish a doable half marathon training programme, will I let her know. Naturally I email her one straight back. Like this one?

The presence of the word ‘Intermediate’ shocks her, she feels she’s never surpassed the dizzy heights of ‘beginner’ despite doing at least 103 half marathons and a few marathons over the years. I promise her she won’t need a glass of red before she reads it.

The opening line of the plan is ‘Once you’ve done your first half...’ so it’s definitely for her.

I nearly considered the next one up but that opens with ‘you’re going to have to feel the burn to get results...’, so I'll perhaps save that for next time.

The gasman, who is booked in for tomorrow, rings to ask if he could come ‘now’. Errm, no.

Park  Bike Works ring me, now there’s a first. It’s ready! Ta da. My next day job is finally ready after eight days. Now that’s service. I’ll pick it up tomorrow.

Squash is cancelled as my opponent’s back hasn’t recovered yet so I go for a run instead. That is if my stomach lets me and doesn’t swing around too much after the venison casserole I put in at lunchtime.

L says let's do something wild and exciting tonight. Ooooh. I’m all hers, once I get this run out of the way.

I run from work to Spondon, get the bus, and then run home from Stapleford. Not sure how far that is in total, 5 or 6 miles I would guess.

I get home but no L. So I have to be wild and exciting on my own until she arrives.

Improvisation

Apparently the Leek Half Marathon has been cancelled this year through lack of participants. That was one of my favourite races but it’s not in my diary this year because I have had no emails from them about it and it hasn’t come up on any of the event searches I've done on various websites.

Perhaps this is why it's lacking of participants... Impossible to enter an event unless you know it’s there.

I do a training run tonight, first from work to Spondon before then getting the bus to Stapleford and running home from there. Around six miles in total perhaps. It goes ok.

Sadly L's exercise class has been cancelled so she’ll have to improvise and do something else for a workout instead. Gym? Swim? Run? Cowgirl? That sort of thing. She's waiting at home for me.

No More Pussy Footing

I am really struggling to get my head around this but I have just had another call from Dfs to ask when they can deliver the mattress for our new bed. This appears to be coming separately to the bed and the other furniture. So that’s three separate deliveries for one order, which we have to attempt to co-ordinate. Nightmare.

After some negotiation two out of three say they can deliver next Friday but not the bed, which apparently has to come on Tuesday.

I have booked my calves in for physio tonight, 5.30 in Spondon. It’s a ‘special’ offer through the Ramathon. Unfortunately they’ve booked me in with a man. Bugger, it’s going to hurt. That pleases L, ‘no more pussy footing about’ she says.

She’s not wrong, he doesn’t pussy foot about at all and delivers possibly the most painful half hour of my life so far. As I roll around in agony he jokes that at least he isn’t using his elbow. I force myself to laugh along with him. Then he uses his elbow. I think I almost blacked out at that point.

Back home later, we are supposed to practice our couple's workout but it didn't go to plan. We must remember to leave our clothes on next time.
