A Difficult Transition For Ageing Paws

My second day this week on the bike but it is much tougher than yesterday, a ferocious headwind batters me all the way into work. At least it stays dry and I am so far puncture-less this week.

The transition to upstairs living has mostly gone well, it is only really Doggo who has found it difficult to adjust and we had a bit of an incident this morning with him sliding down the stairs again. Ageing paws do not grip well on wooden steps. Fortunately if you follow him up, you can catch him but I think we best get some stair treds sorted.

Another adjustment has been juggling mugs of coffee to take upstairs. L has now bought a little tea tray and a little milk jug as well. We are so cultured.

Dog class tonight and a rendezvous with L in pub afterwards.

Not Wind Assisted

The rain has finally stopped and I’m back on the bike. Sadly the wind is still with us and I pedal into a headwind all the way. All very good training I suppose.

L swims 50 lengths before work. If I did that I think I’d sleep the rest of the day. Although I’m not much better after having cycled here.

You would have though the return ride would be wind assisted but it isn’t.

Last Minute Practice

Despite a good soaking yesterday, I manage to dry off most of my kit and ride into work again today.

Today’s first problem is not the rain but the wind as I’m faced with a headwind all the way. There is rain around lunch time, which is pretty torrential but somehow we miss it on our lunchtime pub trip. I have a suspicion that it’s saving itself for my cycle home.

I’m wrong though, the second problem of the day turns out to be whether I’d fixed yesterday’s puncture correctly and not trapped the new tube in the rim. Nope. So, on the way home I have another flat. At least this time it’s dry and sunny, so I should be able to make a better job of it this time.

Despite that mishap I still head to the pool for a swim. It's less a case of last minute practice before Saturday’s Great North Swim and more a case of needing to get my two sessions a month in to get the cash back. Squash is off again due to my opponent having some coving related injury or something. He really should give up decorating.

Resistance Training

I do a run from work. Due to the weather this is my first run since last Tuesday, which isn’t exactly a training programme to be proud of.

Tonight it’s cold and bloody windy. In the form of a headwind of course. L describes this as resistance training. I sort of which I’d resisted and got the bus.

I battle my way through to around about 14km again, which is all quantity and very little quality I think. The dogs then insist on helping me iron out my calves with my foam roller causing me to abort and promise to do it later. Which I don’t.

Self Massage

There’s a bit of a headwind on the bike this morning. Well, actually, more than a bit of one. Hopefully it’ll stay blowing that way for the journey home but I know that’s not going to happen.

L’s off for another session with the Italian sounding lass with the boots or a pummelling as L describes it. Apparently the massage treatment she got to her calves hurt so much that she got cramp in her toes.

I'm not sure what she’d make of my calves. My calves are so lively post-exercise, they can massage themselves.

Today, a Friday night in. Still no Jimmy Saville on TOTP 1977. Funnily enough.
