Too Much Ball

A bit of a long trek to Worcester today for a dog show. Doggo starts the day off and goes clear. Now to ruin the day and get MD out of the car.

Somehow I get a clear round out of him. It wasn’t quick, it wasn’t pretty and we’re unlikely to get a rosette for it but at least it was clear. He seems tired for some reason, too much ball yesterday I think.

MD isn’t the only one who isn’t quick, my own sprinting isn’t impressive but I can do a mean steady hobble. So all set for tomorrow’s half marathon then.

After a pole down in his second run, his third is another clear. Blimey, two in one day. Sadly we knock poles and mess up the weaves in his last run.

Back home L has cooked naff sausages in anticipation of a rosette. It’s a good job they’re naff ones because we’re only 5th. A rosette is a rosette though and we get another one for 14th in the earlier class where I didn’t think we’d be placed. Makes it look like we did alright after all.

Falling To Earth

I walk the boys this morning. Doggo, ever the cautious one, looks worried at this development, not that it’s that unusual. Perhaps he's keeping an eye on the sky for that falling satellite which Nasa says could crash to earth ‘anywhere’. Reassuringly there’s only a 1 in 3,200 chance of it killing someone which is probably about the same probability of me breaking my half marathon PB this year. So we feel safe.

L has a physio appointment this morning. I just hope she doesn’t throttle the guy when he tells her to take a break from running.

In fact, she probably kissed him as he’s told her not to stop running. The prognosis is a ‘yanked’ muscle between hip and knee. Time for some MEAT - movement, exercise, attenuation (massage I think) and treatment.

Running is encouraged although no sudden bursts of speed, no sprinting for the finish line, rushing downhill to make up time or overtake anyone. She’s also been told to take lots of hot baths. A ‘take it easy’ strategy that could have been written by herself.

In the evening I am taken out by work to ‘Thai Dusit’ in Derby. Dusit apparently means paradise and the food was rather good. Beforehand a few of us, stranded in Derby for a few hours, had to kill time in the Alexandra but we managed.

We Have Faith

There was an amusing article on the radio this morning about youth unemployment and the radio station had booked a couple of unemployed lads to come on the radio to talk about their experiences. However... neither turned up and without a word as to why. This prompted a flood of emails, texts and phone calls to the radio show, pointing out exactly why these lads were unemployed...

Pub lunch today. Chicken, Ham and Mushroom pie and a pint, to fortify myself for squash of course but also, perhaps more importantly, for parents evening. Which is our last one at the college, unless of course Daughter loves it so much that she goes back to re-sit the year... but she won’t. We have faith, and we'd kill her.

We attempt to bring some of the appointments forward, so that I can make it back in plenty of time for squash but perhaps also in an attempt to outmanoeuvre Daughter and talk to a few of the teachers 'off the record'. It doesn’t work. As we go into the first appointment I’m sure I can hear her sprinting up the stairs. Yep. Here she is.

It all goes pretty much as expected, which is very well. Although still nobody can extract a university decision out of her. She says buy her a bottle of vodka and she’ll push a few buttons when she’s drunk. Hmmm, if I thought this wasn’t just a ruse to get free vodka I’d have gone for that.

It wasn’t worth rushing back for squash. I get slaughtered and I'm not referring to the pub afterwards.
