Curled Up Asleep

Daughter joins in the park session this morning means L’s tired us all out this morning. They’ll all be curled up asleep at home while L heads off to Pilates and I have another speedy drive in to work. It’s still far too cold and icy to cycle.

By mid-afternoon, not only is it cold but it’s also really foggy. Definitely not a bike day. Instead I do an impressive 25k on the Watt Bike at the gym.

L goes off to an Aqua Fit class at Harvey Hadden with Daughter followed by a sauna. She really will wear that girl out.

Race Face

On the bus again, bailing out on a foggy cycle ride with a dodgy calf. It would probably have gone ok but it's sensible to miss it.

L worries when I’m not sensible and then worries even more when I am. Am I going to be fit for Cardiff? Doubtful. I may just have to hobble round slowly again. Although, as L repeatedly points out, I was still faster than her at Paris. So if she’s wants to be quick at Cardiff, just hobble with me.

Her concern of my injuries isn’t helped by the official photos from Paris where I look in total agony but then again, I always do. This is what my race face looks like, although this time I probably was genuinely in agony.

As I haven’t cycled I head off to the gym to do my training, spending half an hour with the underwear models is better than nothing.

Fogged Off

Wiggle have received L’s squeaky shoes and have refunded me. I wonder what they do with them?
Perhaps they send them to one of those charities asking for shoes for Africa or wherever it is they send them.
Could be loads of people squeaking along the banks of the Nile as we speak.

It is still misty but I’m looking forward to a spot of foggy dogging. L will endeavour not to get lost in the mist on a run in Derby.

As it happens I’m not surprised that dog training is fogged off. L’s run also doesn’t take place.

I try to make the most of having the car by heading to Borrowash for a much needed haircut but they are not even open. Monday is early closing apparently. Having taken so long to get there due to the terrible traffic it’s now too late to swim because they will shut at 7pm and it’ll be at least 6.30pm before I could even get there.

I chuck a few balls instead and then pick L up from Ockbrook.

A Hanging Offence

I cycle in this morning through the fog.

At lunchtime I send L to Waterstones to see if she can find any maps of the Pyrenees. Then I realise my mistake. I hasten to add that she is only allowed in the maps section and she is to be escorted straight there. She doesn’t find any.

I cycle to the pool after work and find the only lane with any space in is in the fast lane where a girl is doing backstroke, slowly, but on her own. This is pretty much a hanging offence but still I beg her not to go when she bales out because I know once she does... and it happens straight away... a fast bloke is going to get in. Damn. That's the end of my gentle swim.

L has washed her puffer jacket and it’s come out flat. Oh dear. Yet I read on various websites that the technical way of fixing this is to tumble dry it with a few tennis balls. Isn’t technology great?

However as it dries it puffs up again all on its own, so the tennis balls are unnecessary, as is the tumble dryer, which we don’t have anyway. Which leaves the tennis balls free for other uses such as, funnily enough, the one L’s physio has already suggested. L has been told to pack a tennis ball to give her bad ankle a massage on holiday. Isn't it amazing what you can with a tennis ball?

It Wasn’t To Be

It’s cold today, colder even than yesterday. It’s also foggy but it’s not actually icy. I could have cycled but I don’t, the legs are feeling a bit weary. Too much ripping tarmac last night perhaps.

I also have squash to consider. Which damn near ends in victory. 1-1 and three game points in the third but sadly it wasn’t to be.
