Office Companions

I’m the car today, which L thinks is because I can't walk due to my allegedly broken ankle. She does have a point. I don’t think walking for the bus is helping my ankle, mainly because I’m always rushing at both ends.

However the main reason I'mon the bus is in case I was going to book the vets for MD, as he still has diarrhoea and seems a bit off colour. He is eating but only chicken, sausage, rice and Doggo’s posh food but not his own dog food.

I read somewhere that if a dog is ill then they might develop a phobia about their current dog food, thinking that is what may have caused it. So we might have to switch him to something else to see if that works. In the end, we don’t take him to the vets.

Both L and I seem to have the same problem with our office companions. Her seventy-something one is often snoring away before 10 o'clock in the morning while the twenty-something in my office is usually doing the same. Today he went outside to his car for a smoke and fell asleep while he was there. I think there might also be a potential fire risk there.

Derby have rather unfairly had their FA Cup 3rd Round tie with Manchester United shifted to tonight because they are Manchester United and that is what they wanted. It’s not even on TV. After a 13 year run of 58 consecutive televised FA Cup matches this one hasn’t been chosen.

The reason for the shift? They were supposed to have the League Cup Semi Final on Tuesday... only now they haven’t because Bristol City knocked them out in the Quarter Finals. Oh how we laughed, not that it helped us as it was too late to shift the game back. Derby give a good account of themselves but lose to two late goals.

Short Skirt Weather

We are off for a short break in the Lakes this evening. L has the whole day off and uses the time to get a haircut, which is always a sad occasion, before finishing packing the car which I had started earlier.

Then after checking whether I have any last requests on the packing front, I do but apparently it’s not short skirt weather, she heads off to pick me up from work. She may not have packed for the eventuality of  short skirt weather but I think she’s covered every other possible eventuality as the car is practically listing to one side. I joke, of course. It's just the book pile.

We are staying in a cottage in Chapel Stile for the first time in quite a while. Yes, we not camping.Quite a few people are struggling to get their heads round this such is our reputation.

We get there in enough time to have a few beers in the Wainwrights Inn and I finally get to add Jennings' Sneck Lifter to my list.

A Big Undertaking

In the car today, so that I can take in a haircut while inadvertently saving the legs for squash later.

L has started reading my blog again from the beginning which is almost as big an undertaking as her bible project. This is mainly to fill in the blanks in her running history but it's also throwing up plenty of things I don't even remember doing.

We track down one of the missing dates which was the Seaton FootpathsRun in Devon in 2009 which was changed from a Beer Festival to a Running Festival the moment I decided to enter. We did it with both dogs, which must have meant a very young MD, and L did it on one leg because she was injured. So some things don’t change.

It’s back to normal at squash, e.g. I lose heavily. Saving the legs didn’t help and I actually think I play better after I've cycled.

Raise The Alarm

L announces she is going to move the alarm clock ten minutes earlier. I’m not totally sure what the plan is for these extra ten minutes and we do already put our existing alarm call to good use but I’m happy to go with the flow.

My lady of leisure pops into work for an hour, then heads off for a haircut before working from home for the rest of the day and chucking balls, of course. Ball chucking has actually entered a new realm since most of the trees went. You can chuck the ball an impressively long way now. MD seems up to the challenge though.
The new hairdo turns out to be a bit on the short side, even for L. I can see I’ll be doing my Christmas shopping at the clip-on ponytail shop this year. She says you don't look at the mantelpiece while you're stoking the fire or so the saying goes. I have a saying too, never underestimate the effect of a good quality mantelpiece.

As I’m out again tonight, continuing to celebrate Cask Ale Week, this time with the ex-University guys in Bingham, L is treating herself (and the dogs) to a roast chicken. Naturally a Sunday roast on a Friday night is a no no but I do pinch some and dunk it in the leftover Madras sauce from our takeaway on Sunday. It’s an excellent improvised meal to fortify myself before the night ahead.
