Difficult Questions

I’m feeling a bit knackered, so I take the bus to work and I will do the gym later, by which point hopefully the rest of my body will have woken up.

L asks me the sort of difficult questions that all couples have to deal with a some point. Can you show me how to set up a Paypal account? and How do I charge my bike lights? I’m here for her.

While reading someone else’s blog and I find out about The Parkrun Alphabet Challenge. Which basically means you have to run 26 different parkruns that all start with a different letter. Well it’s actually only 25 as there is no ‘X’. Yet. Oh, and ‘Z’ is Zary in Poland which I assume L’s response of ‘Poland here we come!’ was all about but that’s Z. There’s plenty more to go at before we get there. I’m such a killjoy.

My friend’s funeral is announced with donations invited for 'Rethink'. ‘Rethink’ are a mental illness charity, which seems to tell us something we didn't know.

Squash is off again and will be for a few weeks as my opponent has had a bout of shingles.

Time For Another City Break

I crawl into work, knackered after a hard week's training and late. I took the bus to work but yet again the 7.40 came at 7:35, which I missed, and the 7.50 at 7.55. Which isn’t helpful.

L crawls into work too or says she would have done, if she could have got down that low. Clearly things are not improving that quickly. That’s not good with the Thunder Run only ten weeks away but she could walk the Thunder Run if need be. I think the rest of us in the team would be pleased to get the extra rest time.

Meanwhile the Track Cycling World Cup is returning to Manchester in November, which means it’s time for another city break and a wild weekend in Manchester. Just need to sort a dog sitter.

Identikit Dullness

I’m on the bus today, for a rest. Whisper it quietly but I’m feeling a bit knackered.

I book tickets for Bananarama at Birmingham’s NIA because the Theatre Royal in Nottingham sold out instantly. Well before instantly actually, I think they all went on 'pre-sale'. At least we can probably combine the gig with a night out in the second city. I was hoping they’d have some standing tickets but I think they've assumed that none of their audience will be young enough or fit enough to do something like that. So we have seats, which are probably in a different post code to the stage.

L says she’ll try and find some glitter. Glitter? I'm not sure why...

Daughter is having internet problems at her new abode. All properties do this thing where the previous tenant has to have everything disconnected only for the next tenant to have to pay through the nose to have everything reconnected. Then because it’s invariably different people doing the connecting, it all goes pear shaped. As it the case here. They even tell her to be in, so she has the day off, only to not turn up and then say she didn’t need to be in after all.

Dogging tonight and it’s all on a course that I requested and which did for us at Scunthorpe dog show the other week. Well it is my birthday tomorrow.

I meet L afterwards in the Masons where they have clearly been working hard on NOT celebrating my birthday given the identikit dullness of their beer selection of Bass, Pedigree, Speckled Hen and Harvest Pale. Ho hum.

Something Strange Happens On The Way To Work

Something strange happens on the way in to work. As I’m cycling along the sun comes out and I stop in shock. I even switch my lights off. I reach for my sunglasses but of course they are still in the drawer at home that is marked ‘things for the summer’. All very odd, yesterday it was still dark when I arrived at work.

So it’s a pleasant ride in the unfamiliar brightness although that doesn't stop me feeling totally knackered as it’s been a while since I’ve cycled three times in one week.

Daughter is on her way to interview number three and she isn’t terribly happy about it. I think everyone has told her she must go because it’s really bad when people drop out of interviews at the last minute or worse still just don’t turn up. It’s wasted so much of everyone’s time here.

L enters the Hairy Helmet, which is a relay for teams of four. Apparently I’m in that team and I’ve paid for the whole team as well, so I suppose I better be. Although MD, my running partner, isn't invited. He’ll be gutted.

Tonight we get in the traditional Friday night along with another takeaway from the rather excellent Curry Busters.

Playing Fast

A third consecutive day on the bike and I’m knackered. So it’s a good job I have a quiet night tonight, only squash...

My opponent still has a cold, not that that makes any difference to the result. L goes off to pump some 'bloody heavy' weights then runs over to us.

She does her workout to the old iPod I gave her after she accidentally put hers in the recycling. We won’t go there. However she’s bemoaning that 'skips' and plays too fast. Well now apparently she’s discovered a setting that says 'Speed - fast, normal, slow' and it was set to fast. Now it’s set to normal it's a pleasure to listen to. The thing is... what’s the setting for? Why would you want to make our music\audiobook run either too fast or too slow? Naturally L thought it was just a ploy to make her go faster at the gym.

Potential For Arguments

I decide to take a day off training and rest the legs on the bus as I'm totally knackered. I still plan to bike tomorrow, run a 5k parkrun on Saturday and run the 10k race on Sunday. It's also a tad rough out there weather wise, so perhaps it was a wise move not to bike.

Tonight I have a committee meeting for the dog club. The agenda is huge and the potential for arguments even huger but somehow we get through it.

Too Much Cycling?

Knackered. Some would say too much cycling after doing three days in a row although obviously there is actually no such thing as too much cycling.

L has a physio appointment today and she is recommended foam rolling, it was bound to come to that eventually. L knows she is always very welcome to borrow my foam roller and I am more than happy to do the honours should she wish. At least she’s not been recommended the track sprinter approach and told to go find herself a length of drain pipe.

Back on the squash tonight and a rather heavy 5-1 defeat.
