Some Sort Of Record

On Monday Dog TV is missing one of its star performers. The Lad is nowhere to be seen. Panning the camera around I can see he’s not in the kitchen and both of the doors in the hall are firmly shut. I can’t see if he’s got into the lounge but I think it would be unlikely he’d got that door open. So, that leaves just one option. I imagine he’s chilling on the bed upstairs having jumped the stair gate. I guess we knew that was coming. MD doesn't look as though he's missing him in the least.

On Tuesday I put the dog cage by the gate and the Lad seems to spend all day sulking in the not-best bed, ceding possession of this to MD who is still in it come 2:30pm, which is some sort of record.

It takes him until Wednesday to finish plotting his escape. When I get home from work he meets me at the door and demonstrates just how much easier the cage makes it for him to jump over and nibble the mail. Time for another rethink.

We have a tallish shoe rack, which covered by a blanket, now becomes the barrier between the Lad and the comfy bed upstairs. It seems to be working at the moment.

Elsewhere this is a week of cancellations. Monday’s dogging is cancelled because it’s too wet although Wednesday’s goes ahead. L’s run with her friends is cancelled on Wednesday although their post-run social still goes ahead and her tennis is off on Thursday although that isn’t weather related. L goes to run club instead, in the rain. The current persistent rain is simply surreal.

The Curse Continues

I’m in car purely so that I can nick another computer from work. Naturally its traffic carnage both on the way in and on the way home.

Daughter reports hearing strange rattling noises coming from the closed stair gate whilst she was in the shower this morning followed by padding up the stairs. On further investigation the stair gate is open and both dogs have gone to bed, upstairs. This, we have long suspected, is what happens.

Everyone has to have a break from running, even Ron Hill, and we feel for him.

I have a Watt Bike session in the gym and then take another computer home from work. The machine works but the disk I swapped from the old machine doesn't. The curse continues.

Termite Attack

On the bike again but its jolly windy and totally against me this morning. Hopefully it’ll be going my way later when I head home. Fingers crossed.

L heads off to pump and possibly bites off more than she bargained for as she asks to be pushed home in a wheelbarrow. Unfortunately we don’t have one.

By contrast, the wind is with me and I cruise home. Where I yet again find the boys the wrong side of the stair gate with the gate itself now starting to look like it’s been under prolonged termite attack. It won’t be long before MD won’t even have to open it, he’ll just be able to climb through the hole he’s gnawed in it.

Border Controls

On the bike today and it didn’t rain on me. Novelty.

It does rain later but we manage to swim to the pub for lunch and more Black Jack. If it doesn’t stop raining soon, I'll be swimming home as well. Thankfully it does ease and even a bit of sun makes an appearance.

L gets home to find the stair gate open again. Doggo is curled up asleep on his mat downstairs while MD was apparently just coming down the stairs. I don’t know whether to be annoyed with that dog or pleased at his resourcefulness.

Dogging tonight and I give L a lift to Mickleover to visit her folks. We consider taking our passports in case they have already set up border controls to get into the extremist shires post-Brexit.

Perhaps this is why training is very sparsely attended, so I take part in a double session to keep numbers up. Then I meet L in the Masons where faced with the same beer selection again, just to be different, I have the Bass.

Three Day Weekends

L claims to be shattered and proclaims the need for three day weekends. Unfortunately I think it’s the exhausting weekends that are the problem.

The idiot salesman from B&Q rings wanting to come out this evening after we specifically said we wanted Tuesday. Then he says they were only coming to measure anyway and we’d need to go back out to the store after the visit anyway. I think I am well capable of measuring a room myself, so I cancel the appointment. I shall have a look to see who else there is we can try.

I get home to find the stair gate open again and Doggo upstairs. The gate had been opened inwards not outwards. Interesting.

Dog training this evening, not that it’s of much use as another event has been cancelled. The one I was going to in Milton Keynes this weekend is now off.
